This May the Corn Exchange is bringing theatre to a village near you. Moorside Community Centre is one of four venues taking part in the Corn Exchange’s first rural tour, with the hope that this may be the first of more to come.

On tour is a show called Odyssey, based on Homer’s epic. However this incredible and complicated story is performed by one man in one hour. With no set and no fancy lighting we are transported back in time to Ancient Greece in the aftermath of the Trojan War. We follow Odysseus on his tortuous journey home to see his wife and son. But after twenty years away, will everything still be as he left it?

On his journey Odysseus encounters monsters and Gods, all trying to stop him getting home. Being the sole actor on stage, George Mann becomes all the characters; one-eyed Cyclopes, various different Gods and nymphs that enslave him, using only his voice and his body. Each character comes alive as George gives them a voice and a gesture or stance so you can recognise them all and not get lost.

George is a great storyteller. His show is funny, easy to watch and very fast paced. He can only perform one show a day because he gets so exhausted after performing it. He didn’t win Best Solo Performer at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival for nothing.

Tickets for Odyssey are free to encourage you to come along and try it out. This doesn’t mean it’s lacking in quality, instead it’s a chance for you to experience what the Corn Exchange does, in the comfort of your own village. So come enjoy a night out on us.

Free tickets can be booked through the Corn Exchange Box Office, call 01635 522733. You can also watch a short trailer for the show on our website, log onto www.cornexchange.com and go to the Odyssey page to see George Mann in action.

Plans for the KHRA Christmas Fair are gathering pace to bring a really special day out for Kennet Heath residents, family and friends. Taking place at Moorside Community Centre from 10am to 3pm on Saturday November 21st we have a great day planned for everyone.

Our FREE Father Christmas will be greeting all the children and giving them a little something from Santa. They can have their face painted by a very talented Kennet Heath resident, or take part in our games and competitions. Our colouring competition for the children is on the third page of this newsletter. Children can colour it now and need to ensure entries are posted in the Competition Post Box no later than 1pm on the day of the fair. Alternatively, children can colour and enter at our craft corner. This has the added benefit of leaving Mum and Dad free to browse all our interesting stalls!

We will have a fabulous array of gifts to choose from, some of which are from local people from Kennet Heath who have been persuaded to show us a selection of their wares. We’ll have some cute button bracelets and felt brooches, alongside some truly beautiful hand crafted oak furniture. A collection of bespoke fine silver jewellery capturing children’s fingerprints in solid silver will make a lovely Christmas gift for all members of the family, and you can pick up a range of preserves, handmade sweets and tasty treats. Be prepared to purchase your home made Traditional Christmas Cakes and Puddings which will be a taste sensation.
The very popular range of Usborne books will be available, along with Avon, Cookie Jars, candles, bags and clothes.
There will be something for everyone, including the cards and the wrapping paper and a bow on top!
We are going to maintain our reputation of having a Raffle with a vast amount of fantastic prizes, and you
can compete in the Tombola, The Treasure Hunt, Guess the weight of the cake and many other great
competitions. We’ll have lots of surprises in store, and of course you can feast on our cake stall – nothing beats a
mince pie and a cuppa once you have finished all your Christmas shopping! Our favourite local cook will also be providing the same incredibly popular samosas that sold out at last year’s Table Top Sale.
Please join us and get Christmas started in style.

We would very much appreciate any donations of Tombola or Raffle prizes, any home baked cakes for the Refreshments and as many willing volunteers as possible to set up, run stalls and clear up at the end.
If there is anything at all that you could help with please contact Lisa via the forum or call on 07867 527774.
